Biyomedikal mühendisliği biyoloji ve tıp alanlarına mühendislik yöntem, yordam, sistem ve cihazlarının kullanımı ile destek veren, disiplinler arası etkileşim içerisinde insan sağlık sorunlarına gözlem, tanı ve tedavi aşamalarında hizmet sunan bir mühendislik dalıdır. Biyomedikal mühendislerinin başlıca amacı geliştirilen yeni cihaz, süreç, sistem ya da algoritmalarla biyoloji ve tıp bilimlerinin gelişmesine katkıda bulunmak ve sağlık çözümlerinde uygun mühendislik hizmetleri ile daha etkin sonuçlar elde etmektir.
